A group of ten convicted of cyber-bullying against Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for carrying out the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The those on trial faced allegations of circulating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's significant age difference.

The court issued suspended prison sentences of up to eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has still to be made public.

A circulating unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's identity.

Their lawsuit alleges that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence contradicting her allegations choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.

Owens has regularly repeated these allegations on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.

Brigitte Macron initially encountered her future husband when she was a teacher at his high school.

The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
